One of the main issues that happened within the last couple of years in the game dev industry has been a severe pullback from publishers and investors into new games. The market is currently flooded with games and building something more ambitious that requires funding has been a big challenge, especially for studios that don’t have constant revenue from a previously successful game.
After we launched Eyes in the Dark, we wanted our next game to be more ambitious when it came to world building, scope and general production value. This meant that we were very much at odds with the general trend of the industry at the time. The smart and prudent thing to do would have been to create something smaller and safer and try and get a game out quickly to get some revenue coming in. However, Eyes in the Dark was also not a safe game to do and we didn’t want to hamper our own ambitions just because it didn’t go on to become a huge hit.
Lucky for us, that’s where Creative Europe came in. We applied to the MEDIA grant specifically, hoping that we could get the game’s demo and vertical slice completed with the funding. The application process was straightforward enough and most of the contents of the application boiled down to one large document that asks a lot of smart questions about the nature of the game, the team and our general goals and expectations. It turned out to be a very effective sanity check for the game itself.
There were a lot of applications, however, and we were on the brink of potentially shutting down as a studio if the grant didn’t go through. Luckily, we got the grant and that not only saved the studio it allowed us to hire more people to work on the game.
The project is called Lost Heritage, it is a top-down fantasy strategy game where the combat gives you control over two characters and lets you pause the game at any time.
You might have seen us show bits and pieces of the game in the last couple of months, we were very busy putting together all of the game’s core mechanics and underlying systems into place as part of the grant timeline and we can finally talk more about it now that the grant process is nearing its completion. Follow our socials if you want to see more updates on the game’s progress!
It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to complete a development cycle so far on such a large game for us, especially since we still do not have a publisher attached. This essentially means that thanks to the grant we received, we can now either crowdfund the remaining production or we can find a publishing partner. However, because most of the game’s systems are now completed, the remaining funding and timeline is a lot easier to manage.
We’re incredibly grateful that the grant allowed us to solve so many issues with the early builds of the game and keep experimenting and iterating on our core mechanics and systems. We can’t wait to show more of the game off to everyone so we hope you’ll continue to follow us on our socials.

It's summer in Croatia!
One of the main benefits of living in Croatia is our coastline. It means that when it gets above 30 degrees we can all migrate down and spend several months working from the beach.
